Executive Summary

NOTE : all prices are in AUD

Executive Summary

  • I tried to make a booking for $15,401.30 on Destination Holidays
  • They authorised the transaction with my bank
  • They failed the booking
  • They denied that the booking existed.
  • When the bank transaction finally went thru they reversed it minus $561.02, because they think I should pay for their mistake.
So I bought something from them, they failed to deliver & then don't return all my money.

NOTE : At no time did I ask dh to cancel a booking !

 Tuesday 7th Feb 2023

  1. Using skyscanner.com I found the flights I wanted for $15,401.38 on destinaholidays.com (dh)
  2. I proceeded to book the flights.
    1. Completed the forms
    2. Entered Bank Details
    3. Authorised the Credit Card transaction for $15,401.38
  3. At this stage dh rejected the booking as the fare was no longer available, and offered me a similar flight plan at about $24,000
  4. I did not accept the "slight increase" as I knew there were better fares available.
  5. Later that day I realised that dh had submitted a bank authorisation for $15,401.38

Over the next few days

  1. I contacted dh many times asking them to reverse the authorisation.
  2. dh denied (many times) that there was any transaction/authorisation.
  3. During this time the bank authorisation "blocked" me from using the $15,401.38 that dh had authorised

Friday 10th Feb 2023

  1. The bank auth changed from an authorisation to a completed payment
  2. I contacted dh and SURPRISE the transaction did actually exist.
  3. Eventually dh said they would reverse the transaction however they will take out a refund processing fee.

Monday 13th Feb 2023

  1. Looking at my bank account I see a pending refund for $14840.36,
  2. dh have kept $561.02 because "THEY MADE A MISTAKE IN TAKING THE MONEY BEFORE

Wednesday 15th Feb 2023

dh are ignoring me probably 'cos for some reason I'm getting quite mad at them.

Web 22nd Feb 2023

I have been in contact with skyscanner, who I used to find dh. they have tried but dh are claiming that the missing money was probably due to bank fees on my side.
  1. This is a incorrect
  2. Even so why should I have to wear the cost from dh's mistake

Wed 1st March 2023

So, during the last 2 weeks DH have claimed that the difference in the refund was the fault of my bank keeping back fees.
My bank denied this (they do not take such fees)
Through skyscanner ( DH are not talking to me ) I asked them to show, from their banking proof that they had refunded the full amount. After about 10 days I got notification that DH had refunded the "remaining" amount (in $US).

HOWEVER the exchange rate has changed (not in their favour), I am still some $(AU)88 out of pocket.
Better than nearly $(AU)600 but still ... it was all their mistake ... they should wear the loss.......

Current Status

My bank has the transaction details & I am hoping that they completely revers the transactions on the grounds than dh failed to deliver any product.
